"40 Jahre Klangraum" poster and leaflet by Studio Tillack Knöll are part of a print project designed for Kunstraum 34, for the 40th anniversary of Klangraum, festival for experimental music and performance in Stuttgart.
The poster and leaflet share the same visual language but use it differently.
On the poster, the number "40" fills the entire surface, printed multiple times at different sizes and transparencies, layered on top of each other to create depth. The event title, dates and venue sit in a clean white band at the top, clearly separated from the background.
The leaflet unfolds into 10 pages and works as a document of the festival's 40-year history. On one side, it shares space with a grid of archival black and white photographs from past editions, captioned and numbered chronologically. The program schedule runs on the back, in tight columns alongside the imagery. The typographic background shifts across pages, sometimes carrying words like "experimentelle" or "Klangraum" rather than just the numeral.
The main elements across both are a round, full-bodied typeface for the large display text, a tight sans-serif for all readable information, and the archival photography.
Three colors throughout: fluorescent pink, cool gray and black. The gray carries the large background text, pink fills the field, black handles everything the reader follows.
