An Identity Born from a Tool that breaks from the Past.
An Identity Born from a Tool that breaks from the Past.
A visual Identity project by Studio Vu-huu.

Studio Vu-huu, a Parisian interdisciplinary graphic and typographic design studio, created the 2026 - 2027 season of La Nouvelle Vague, a cultural and musical centre in Saint-Malo, France, a Breton port city bordering the English Channel, hence the name La Nouvelle Vague.
That’s where the generational clash comes in with La Nouvelle Vague, which asserts its desire to break free from the past and move forward: pixels, RGB colors, bold typography.
To design the Identity, Studio Vu-huu specifically developed a remarkably efficient tool: a Paint-like program that lets you create visuals very quickly. Fully customizable, free and accessible via website to everyone, the software focuses on a limited color palette and a 16x16 grid. More than enough to create a small flower, a house or, in this case, the La Nouvelle Vague new Identity.
The result is an imprecise and unique language, free from boundries of today's common softwares, entirely handmade.
The visuals are accompanied by two typefaces. "Flib Soft" echoes the fluidity of the gestures and evokes the sea, waves and water. The other, pixelated, “reflects the grid of music partitions and digital music interfaces,” as the studio itself explains.
